Louis Vuitton Strikes it Big with Young and Fun Handbags for Spring/Summer 2010
Louis Vuitton may very well be the name most-often associated with luxury leather handbags. They boast avant-garde designs paired with the high quality that comes with luxury leather goods. These bags usually range from $700 to nearly $2,000.
In 2010, Louis Vuitton lived up to this claim. A sales spike of 53% told the world that they were doing something right. The middle-of-summer spike pointed to the spring/summer collection. So what exactly did they do right? Let’s take a look at just their signature element – the Spring/Summer 2010 Louis Vuitton handbag collection.
Monogram prints, shoulder straps, and cute charms were they key features of this collection. Louis Vuitton plastered their LV all over bright colors, giving the bag collection a youthful, fun appeal. This could have been the cause of the sales increase. A light, fun, and occasionally Bohemian approach to high fashion would call to a younger range of consumers and expand the company’s sales possibilities.
January 2010 welcomed the first few of these bags. Three styles – a shoulder bag, a square handbag, and a drawstring backpack style bag were all lined and trimmed with bright shades of pink, blue, and green. A fun black monogram on a soft, light white background and soft, light brown leather trim gave people exactly what they needed for summer.
The second portion of the 2010 Spring/Summer 2010 Louis Vuitton collection came in March of the year. These bags took the fun a step further. This time, Louis Vuitton plastered their logo across last year’s denim, but this time in bright shades of blue, green, and pink that faded up to the top to seem bleached by the sun. These came in handbags and loose shoulder bags, giving their traditional luxury a fun, loose feel.
Another set was released in March as well. These were leather bags, but Louis Vuitton gave them a fun feel with bright colors and fun designs. They combined light browns and tans with cute pastels in small shoulder bags with cell phone cords, fanny pack style bags, duffle bags and messenger bags. Bright-colored tassels accented these bags to give them and interesting Bohemian feel. Patchwork and tassels met in two of these designs, taking the Bohemian feel to a whole new level.
Separate charms were sold with these bags to add on even more fun. Pastel rabbit’s feet and more fun tassels could be purchased and hooked right onto the bags.
Louis Vuitton did release a few of its classic leather monogram pieces with the rest of the collection, but these were staples that the company only improved. The shift to bright colors and a youthful feel of the Spring/Summer 2010 handbags collection was a unique one for the typically high-fashion company. And it worked. Sales increased. Now that is avant-garde.
